Little!Laura wrote a story about me for AP. It's very amusing. And rather true to life. Sort of. ; )
Emma-esque
"Pants!" she giggled as she held up a pair of blue jeans a size too large.
"Wide legs and soft material. Is good. Doesn’t last long but, eh." She checked the price tag. Twenty dollars. A little steep for a pair of pants. But she wanted pants. Her favorite pair had rips on both sides up to the knees and huge holes in the knees as well. Maybe her mother would reimburse her for them. Hard to say.
"What do you think?"
"I like." I grin. Emma grins back at me. We grin and giggle. She nances around the store carrying her pants on her arm, still contemplating her decision and reveling in her euphoria. She used to hate shopping but now, she rather enjoyed it. It was a nice break from her usual grueling chemistry homework. A large portion of her weekends were spent writing labs in haiku and drawing pictures of charred squirrels under the error analysis. Maybe she needed a new skirt… One with cool pockets would be good. She searched through the sale rack but, alas, nothing struck her fancy. Everything was too expensive. She loved being a page at the library but the pay was not what you would call plentiful.
"I blame my dad," she smiles. "He doesn’t spend money on anything and now I can’t either. Silly habits… learn from parents…grumble grumble…" Another grin. She tucks the pieces of her very frizzy brown hair that have escaped from her braid behind her ears and she wanders off. After shuffling through the sale rack for a few more minutes, she decides.
"I want pants!"
"Yay!"
Emma dances up to the cash register and lays the pants on the counter. She opens her wallet. Disaster! Only fifteen dollars.
"Drat. I’m sorry, I don’t have quite enough." She turned to walk away, slightly depressed. "Maybe I’ll come back with my mom."
"Yeah," I agree.
As we step out of the store, a gust of wind carries a green piece of paper past us and into a potted plant. Emma takes a closer look and exclaims, "And then I found five dollars!"
